The space debris incident follows the US shooting down a Chinese ‘spy balloon’ over the Atlantic Ocean after it crossed over sensitive military sites. An 18-ton rocket fell uncontrolled in May 2020. On 29 April, the rocket launched a piece of the new Chinese space station into orbit, but was left to hurtle through space uncontrolled until Earth’s gravity began pulling it back to the ground. The country’s first space station, Tiangong-1, crashed into the Pacific Ocean in 2016 after Beijing confirmed it lost control. A Chinese rogue rocket booster is expected to crash somewhere on Earth on Saturday. The Long March 5B was launched from Chinas Hainan. Nasa accused Beijing last year of ‘failing to meet responsible standards regarding their space debris’ after parts of a Chinese rocket landed in the Indian Ocean. A large Chinese rocket thought to be out of control is expected to crash back to Earth at some point on Saturday, but nobody knows where exactly. Last November, a massive, 21-tonne piece of Chinese space junk made an uncontrolled free fall to Earth.
